Read more...July 14, 2008 (Houston, Texas) - World-renowned cardiovascular surgeon Dr Michael DeBakey has died at age 99. One of the few heart surgeons to gain international recognition outside of medicine, he passed away of natural causes on Friday evening at the center that bears his name, part of the Baylor College of Medicine and Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Ethnic Cleansing created more than three hundred thousands refugees and displaced persons in Georgia during the war in Abkhazia. This number increased with the expulsion of Georgians from Abkhazia and with the ferocious atrocities committed by Abkhazian militias against the Georgian majority in Abkhazia.

The UN General Assembly passed a resolution on the breakaway Abkhazia on Thursday, stating necessity to start return of IDPs at home and stop illegal privatization of their property left in the breakaway region.

Joe Johnson shook off a poor night to hit a crucial 3-pointer with 1:07 remaining and the Atlanta Hawks forced an improbable Game 7 with Boston, beating the top-seeded Celtics 103-100 on Friday night.

Marvin Williams led the Hawks with 18 points despite missing most of the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Kevin Garnett paced the Celtics with 22 points and Ray Allen added 20.

The deciding game is Sunday in Boston. The home team has won every game in the surprisingly close series.

According to the Russian Agency ITAR-TASS, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Valery Keniyakin announced today that if there will be any military intervention in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Russia will use the military method.
