South Ossetian separatist leader Eduard Kokoity threatens Georgia with terrorist acts - in an interview to the Ossetian newspaper 'South Ossetia' Kokoity did not rule out terrotist acts in Georgia in the nearest future. 'If inside Georgia some one thinks that combat operations can take place only on the territory of South Ossetia, they are confused. South Ossetia today is not what it was in 2004. We have power and means to disturb many cities of Georgia with this,' Kokoity said. Rustavi2 |

The prime minister of breakaway Abkhazia, Alexander Ankvab, has survived an apparent assassination attempt, Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported.
He was “slightly injured” after his car came under grenade attack early on July 9. It is the third, and possibily fourth, such attempt on his life in two years.
Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh condemned the attack on his close ally as an attempt by organized crime to destabilize Abkhazia and to undermine on-going reforms. |

Georgia’s central bank is to ask foreign banks to close down the accounts of Russian Companies and individuals that buy assets in the breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia. Abkhazia, a strip of land on the Black Sea coast, broke away from Tbilisi’s control in a 1992-1993s war. It has no international recognition, but Georgia accuses its giant neighbour Russia of flouting its borders and propping up the separatists. “We must go to the banks with a request that they should not cooperate with, or open accounts for, those organizations that are operating on the territories not under (Tbilisi’s) control,” central bank chief Roman Gotsiridze said.
