In Tbilisi with the support of Abkhazian AR, took place conference, devoted to the memory of great deportation of Abkhazian population 130 years ago.

In Tbilisi with the support of Abkhazian AR, took place conference, devoted to the memory of great deportation of Abkhazian population 130 years ago.

"Mukhadzhirstvo (deportation of apsua-abkhazians) was the tragic event in history of Abkhazia. This process lasted about ten years, and it is necessary, that was this historical episode would be condemned" , - declared the chairman of Supreme Soviet of Abkhazian AR Temur Mzhavia.

 

In the middle of 19th century huge part of apsua-moslems were deported by the order of the Russian Tsar to Turkey. This process is also known as “mukhadzhirstvo”, caused  big protests in Georgia. Some priests even left to Abkhazia, trying to rescue Apsua population from deportation through the mass turning into Christianity.
