Welcome speech delivered by the Dr. Ramaz Mitaishvili on the meeting of Mr. David Sikharulidze (ambassador of Georgia to the United States of America) with Georgian diaspora in South California.
Ladies and Gentlemen!
It is a great pleasure to add my warmest welcome to this meeting Georgian community and personally Mr. Irakli Gagua have spent so much time and energy planning. It's good to see so many of you here again. Georgians have come a long way since the dark days of the Shevardnadze administration, an administration that had an open- door policy toward selling of our motherland. Shevardnadze administration had own interpretation of our lives, imposed life-destroying regulations when national apathy and depression were prolonging old man’s fiesta on presidential chair.
Today, I need your help to save freedom in our native country Georgia. I’m not exaggerating. We are at the edge of a dangerous political precipice. If we fail to act, out of apathy or because we want someone else to do our job, we betray not only ourselves but our children and grandchildren. We betray our country and the founding ancestors.
Freedom and democracy in Georgia are at risk on three fronts- the Russian Empire, Kremlin pets from opposition, and our apathy.
The Russian media is playing a stealth propaganda game especially this year, giving the impression that Georgians discrimination, taking over of our land is not at issue. They are floating stories predicting a fall of Georgian democracy due to confrontation of government and own population.
Where the media is predicting “regime change”, there is one force that can stop it – our support to our freedom. Now we are next to election in January. We have to elect candidate, who can help protect our freedom, our rights, and democracy.
God Bless Georgia, God Bless United States, God Bless People around the world.
Thank you!
