On March 20, 2008, with the initiative of Abkhazia Institute for Social and Economic Research and the “Georgia News” newspaper, President of Georgia, Mr. Mikhael Saakashvili, met with representatives of the Georgian Diaspora from all over the United States. The meeting was attended by a writer and a public activist, Dr. Ushangi Rizhinashvili; a university professor of Slavonic languages and literature from Indiana, Dodona Kiziria; an artist, Eteri Chkadua; an actor of a Washington theater, Irakli Kavsadze; a music conductor from Los Angeles, Marina Lomtatidze, and others.  dMinister of Defense, Mr. David Kezerashvili, Minister of Economic Development, Ms. Ekaterina Sharashidze, Attorney General of Georgia, Ms. Ekaterina Tkeshelashvili, Minister of the Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Bakradze, Secretary of the Security Council, Mr. Alexander Lomaya and Ambassador of Georgia to the USA, Canada and Mexico, Mr.Vasilii Sikharulidze, as well as other representatives of the Georgian Federal Government were also present at the meeting.

President Saakashvili gave a brief summary of his meeting with President George Bush and the United States Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, as well as the United States Secretary of Defense, Mr. Robert Gates and other officials of the military office, in Pentagon.

President Saakashvili talked about the friendly and business oriented atmosphere of all those meetings. He mentioned that his visit was one of the most successful visits to the United States he had ever had.  

“I had a dinner and a very productive meeting with George Bush and other leaders of the Administration. This is my most successful visit, although each visit brings more success than the previous one. I don’t recall another country which will get such a support, friendship and understanding in the United States as Georgia”, Mr. President said.

Mikhael Saakashvili had suggested all Georgians living in the United States visiting Georgia for a certain period of time to share their knowledge and experience with the young generation of Georgia.     

Mr. Rizhinashvili told about projects on Abkhazia rehabilitation carried out by Abkhazia Institute for Social and Economic Resources.

Mr. Saakashvili then answered questions of guests and press.  

At the end of the meeting, Mr. President wished a happy birthday to professor Dodona Kiziria, and gave her a bouquet of fresh flowers.
