Georgia aligned itself with the EU Statement on the non-entry into force of Protocol 14 to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms disseminated at the 1001st meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
The EU member states and the countries aligning themselves with this statement, including Georgia urge the Russian Federation to take all the necessary measures to ensure the effective functioning of the European Court of Human Rights and the entry into force of Protocol 14. Russia is the only country from the Council of Europe member states that has not yet ratified Protocol 14. The Protocol was ratified by Georgia on 10 November 2004.
As of June 1 2007, Georgia was granted the right to align itself with political declarations/statements adopted within the framework of the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy. |
