Two clubs with ambitions to lift European trophies come face-to-face at Old Trafford on Sunday with both desperate to kick-start their domestic campaigns.
Slow starters UEFA Champions League hopefuls Manchester United FC have taken just two points from their three Premier League games to date and were beaten by their city rivals Manchester City FC last weekend, while UEFA Cup contenders Tottenham Hotspur FC are just a point better off having defeated Derby County FC 4-0 after consecutive defeats marred the start of their season.
Saha vital Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping that the return to fitness of Louis Saha, who is set to be named as a substitute on Sunday, will help United convert the chances which have so far been passed up by their injury-ravaged forward line. "We're hoping we can get Saha on the bench, but it depends on how he comes through training," he said. "He is an out-and-out front player with pace and power. If he does come back then it is a big boost."
Harmful speculation Spurs could have two of their five injured defenders back in the form of Gareth Bale and Michael Dawson, and their return could not be better timed after a week of off-field problems with the club forced to release a statement backing their manager Martin Jol after speculation linking Sevilla FC coach Juande Ramos with his job. Goalkeeper Paul Robinson, under pressure himself after an error for England against Germany in midweek, insists the club has gained strength by coming through the saga.
'Closer together' "It's been a difficult week but it's made us stronger and we're all pulling in the same direction," he said. "We know what we want. Hopefully we'll be able to achieve it collectively. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and as a group it's brought us all closer together. The players are buoyant, all looking forward to the game and determined to get another positive result."
