Page 3 of 3 The overall objective of the guideline is to support and develop the delivery of care within Primary Care for patients suffering from coronary heart disease. It aims to improve the identification and management of coronary heart disease by General Practitioners by reducing variation in practice, and thus providing a mechanism for improving the quality of care.It offers clear recommendations for the assessment, treatment and follow-up of patients with coronary heart disease in General Practice and is intended to be complimentary to secondary care. Potential barriers to the implementation of the guideline would be as follows: 1. The lack of access to an electrocardiogram machine within some General Practices. 2. The financial constraints of employing and training existing Practice Nurses to provide Coronary Heart Disease clinics, together with the limited numbers of Practice Nurses available. 3. Increased prescribing costs, particularly Statins, ACE Inhibitors and Clopidogrel. |
