Three games into the new season in Georgia and FC WIT Georgia and FC Zestaponi are topping the table while FC Ameri Tbilisi are already looking troubled.
Unbeaten run Unbeaten after three games, WIT and Zestaponi currently have seven points apiece, one more than reigning champions FC Olimpi Rustavi, promoted Maskheti FC and FC Dinamo Tbilisi, though the latter have a game in hand. Ameri, meanwhile, have slumped to tenth in the 14-team table with a win and two defeats in their opening fixtures.
Hundredth goal Ameri started the season with a game against FC Lokomotiv Tbilisi in which they looked like strong favourites, but despite taking the lead after just two minutes, Giorgi Chikhradze's side lost 2-1. A 3-2 win in their next game against FC Dila Gori seemed to have put Ameri back on course, with Suliko Davitashvili scoring his 100th Georgian league goal, but a 1-0 loss at Olimpi on Saturday saw the club come unstuck again.
Coaching change Olimpi themselves had started the season with a defeat, losing 2-0 at home against Dinamo Tbilisi in what was to be their last game under coach Varlam Kilasonia. Ukrainian Anatoli Piskovets has since taken charge, with his side earning back-to-back 1-0 wins against FC Dinamo Batumi and Ameri respectively.
Opening draw WIT and Zestaponi shared the honours with a 1-1 draw in their opening tie of the season, and neither side have conceded a goal since. One of Zestaponi's wins came against promoted Maskheti who have nonetheless made a good impression, with that 2-0 defeat being book-ended by a 1-0 win against fellow newcomers FC Mglebi Zugdidi and a 3-2 triumph at Lokomotivi.
