Aston Villa have signed West Bromwich Albion defender Curtis Davies on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer.
Villa manager Martin O'Neill has been keen to sign Davies for several months and has finally got his man. The England U-21 centre-back is likely to agree a £10m switch to Villa Park when his loan expires at the end of the season.

Davies had not played for the Championship club this season as he waited for his future to be resolved, and Albion manager Tony Mowbray admitted it was in everyone's interests for the former Luton player to move on.

"The supporters are well aware Curtis wanted to leave the club and play in the Premiership," Mowbray said.

"Since our play-off defeat at Wembley last season, he clearly felt his future lay elsewhere. This has resulted in Curtis not wanting to play for the team this season.

"We only want players here who are fully committed to the cause."
