AC Milan failed to keep in touch with Juventus and AS Roma at the top of the Serie A standings after they were held to a 1-1 draw by ACF Fiorentina at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium.
Kaká spot-kick Milan had the first chance of the match after 14 minutes when Alberto Gilardino deflected an errant shot by Kaká towards Fiorentina's goal but Sébastien Frey denied the Italy striker with a fine diving save. Fifteen minutes later, though, the French goalkeeper was beaten after the Rossoneri were awarded a penalty for a foul by visiting captain Dario Dainelli on Massimo Ambrosini and Kaká sent him the wrong way for his third goal in two games.
Chances aplenty The Viola equalised ten minutes after the break when Adrian Mutu headed in a right-wing cross by Alberto Santana. Frey then saved again brilliantly from Kaká, while Mutu screwed his shot wide with only Dida to beat. Substitute Filippo Inzaghi was also left frustrated after spurning an opportunity to restore the hosts’ lead following a defence-splitting pass by Kaká, the Italian international completely missing his kick from close range. It was Fiorentina, however, who came closest to winning the match as Zdravko Kuzmanović hit the post with a low shot from just inside the penalty area. The draw leaves both clubs two points off the lead in joint-third place.
